Capsule #3 / Outfit 30
This is the outfit I always grab when I don’t know what else to wear. It’s cute, and I don’t have to stress if I haven’t shaved my underarms. #realtalk
In case you don’t follow me on Instagram, this is Steve-Z our dog! I’ll never forget when I saw him for the first time. Aaron and I were 7 days married, and we somewhat impulsively decided to drive 3 hours to San Antonio and adopt this guy. He was 6 years old, retiring from his show dog days. We walked through this sweet lady’s front door, and I could see him standing at the sliding glass back door — ears all perked, looking ADORABLE.
ADORABLE.
Our lives were never the same. We love this little dude so much.
So anyway…
Clothes…
If you want more ideas + ways to wear your chambray shirt, here ya go.
Top: J.Crew
Bottom: Madewell — only a few left! (similar here too)
Shoes: J.Crew
Bag: ONA
Bangles: Madewell
Your blog reminds me of how much I want / need a denim-like shirt. But I never seem to find one that fits just right :/
Let’s be honest… I’m really commenting so you can hear that ding on your phone letting you know you have a comment ;-) I am SO ridiculously proud of you my friend! Love you so much. You’re changing peoples’ lives with this here blog.
Big hugs.
And give SteveZ a hug and kiss from me.
You’re BOTH adorable!
Love you, bestie! xoxo Caroline
Hi. I hope you don’t mind but I featured your blog on my blog in a section I call ‘Blog in the Spotlight’. I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now and already it has changed the way I feel about the way I dress. I recently lost a lot of confidence in the clothes I wear thanks to a deteriorating medical condition, but since I’ve been reading your blog I’ve started to feel more inspired. I’m starting to plan out my own capsule wardrobe and I think it is going to make such a difference to the way I dress. So I just wanted to say ‘thank you!’.
I love your style anyway (and if you were to ever see me around Austin you’d notice a whole lotta accessory overlap) but I gotta say… the style is better with a pup at your side!
Cuteness all around! Hey, I was wondering which style app you use to keep track of your wardrobe? I remember you mentioning it somewhere on your lovely blog. Is it Stylebook?
Hi Cynthia!
Yes, it’s Stylebook — and I LOVE it! It takes some work to get it set up, but then it’s so worth it. My best tip? Don’t photograph your items yourself — go online and grab the item photo right off the website. They usually have white backgrounds already. :)
xoxo

Thanks, Caroline! I think I’ll give it a go!
Hi Caroline! I just stumbled onto your blog last week and love your capsule wardrobe idea. I’m all about simplicity these days and purging my own items, so I found it inspiring! I also read and loved your home tour, and really wanted to ask you about home design. My husband and I also have a small space (a one bedroom apartment), and, like you, I’m all about living simply and minimally, but with things that I love and are meaningful to me. Your space looks beautiful, and I was wondering if you had any tips for design, as well as sources for where you purchased some of your things – I was especially curious about your pillows, prints, and kitchen table. Oh, and the wire basket for toilet paper storage that you use – I’ve actually been on the hunt for one myself, but can’t manage to find one small enough! These are all things I’m working on, but I’m definitely lacking in skill when it comes to home design, so if you had suggestions, I would so love to hear them! Thanks so much, and again, great job with the blog and style ideas.
Hi Chrissie!
Thanks for your kind words! My pillows are from West Elm, my dining room table is from Ikea, and my prints are from Emily Rickard’s store on Society6. The wire basket is from Target a few years back.
As far as tips for design … I’ll have to think about that one a bit and get back to you. :)
xoxo Caroline
Chrissie, I just received a CB2 catalog in the mail today which features a bunch of cute, wire baskets like so:

Thanks Cynthia, I will check that out!
Thanks so much, Caroline! I’ll scope out those places and see if I can find some things that will work for my apartment. And if you ever feel the urge to write a post on home design and share some of your tips, I’d love to read it. You’ve done such a lovely job with your place! :)
Hm, I’m really bummed to learn that you take all your outfit photos upfront, at the beginning of the capsule, rather than really show what you’re wearing each day. I have really been enjoying reading your blog and seeing you make the most out of a small wardrobe, but now I feel like your blog isn’t really addressing wardrobe fatigue, etc., because you only had to wear the outfits for three minutes for photos, not every day.
Just because Caroline does all photos upfront doesn’t mean she doesn’t wear these outfits regularly throughout the 3 month season. It just may not necessarily be the same outfit on the same day the blog post goes up. Daiily photos would be near impossible for someone who works full time. I think it’s great that all photos are done upfront. Consistent content and good time management :) You go Caroline!
Hi Sarah!
I’m sorry you’re bummed. I take all the photos upfront so that I can make sure to be consistent in sharing outfits with you every day — which I hope helps people think about their wardrobes in a new way.
You might be happy to know that I actually do wear the outfits day in and day out — just not on the specific day you see it posted. Even though the photos are taken ahead of time, I still choose to live with my little capsule wardrobe behind the scenes. It brings more peace to my life.
xoxo Caroline
Ahh, I was wondering about that and, as a photog, wondering if you were just reeeeeaaally consistent with your camera height/lighting/etc from day to day ;) I think it’s a great idea to put together the outfits and take all the shots at once, as a. taking daily (even daily-ish) pics for a consistent series is a PITA, and b. it makes the whole endeavour even more minimalist IMO because you have to think even less about what to wear day-to-day, just pick an appropriate outfit from those you’ve already put together :)
ps your whippet is adorable!
What an adorable dog! I’m new to your blog, but I’m really enjoying it. I’m a sucker for prints, but that’s led me to a chaotic closet, and I really like seeing what you can do with solid, neutral colors. Thanks for sharing your experience!
