Hi! How’s your week going?
Can you believe we’re already almost half way through this summer 10×10 remix? My girl Lee of Style Bee and I are having the BEST time hosting it.
What’s your favorite part so far? Hands down, mine is the kind, positive, inclusive community — just take a look at the #summer10x10 posts on Instagram! I have to give you guys a big ol’ thank you — thanks for making this a safe and fun space to try new things and get excited about style. :)
(And hey, want to join in? We’re all working on our own timetable here, so it’s not too late — here’s my quick start guide.)
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
I think my workout wear has given me the confidence to wear crop tops freely. My favorite workout top is the Athena crop from Outdoor Voices — it’s basically the athletic version of the white tank I’m wearing today, so I feel at home in it.
With the super soft tank and worn-in shorts, this outfit is all about comfort and ease. It’s perfect for working from home and doing things around the house, which is what I’ll be doing pretty much all day today. However, if I need to run out for a minute, I can grab a bag and I’m ready to go.
Later tonight we have a community event, so I think I’m going to swap out this casual outfit for one of the dresses in my 10×10.
And on that note, don’t forget, this whole 10×10 thing doesn’t need to be rigid — you can always make swaps or take a day off or whatever you need to make it a fun experience. There’s no such thing as cheating. :)
STYLING NOTES
COUNTERBALANCE | This outfit has three elements that could make for an over the top outfit: A tight tank, shorts, and peek of the midriff. But! It’s all about the counterbalance. To bring this outfit down a notch, I made three styling moves in the name of counterbalancing: I unrolled my shorts to add extra length. I picked a top with a high neckline. And I kept hair simple and makeup to a minimum. The neutral color palette and basic pieces help bring the outfit down another notch.
DOUBLE WRAP A BANDANA | We’re all familiar with the bandana by now, but try wrapping it around your neck twice instead of just once for a different look. Other bandana ideas: tie it onto your suitcase for easy identification, wear it around your wrist as a bracelet, tie it onto your purse for a little color, or wear it in your hair (I have a hair + bandana tutorial for that right here).
ADD INTEREST TO YOUR BASICS WITH A ROUND BAG | Like I mentioned before, super basic outfit here — denim shorts and a plain white tank, meh. But the round bag gives it a playful focal point and a jolt of contrasting color.

The scarf makes the outfit! Simple accessories, in wardrobe and our homes have such an impact. -Laurel

I love how you’ve mixed it up this Remix Series but it still looks like you and your style! xx
Ps. You were mentioned today in a Daily Mail article here in the UK :)
Simple and nice looking. Thanks for sharing these style tips.

These shorts look great on you! I’m so bummed, they fit so awkwardly on me, and I ended up mailing them back (love Madewell’s free returns for Insiders!).
Hi Caroline, shouldn’t bags and scarfs be included in the challenge wardrobe since they help create the outfits?
Hey Teodora! I suppose you could include them, it would just really limit your clothing options. I tend to look at accent pieces as ways to tie a look together, or change an outfit a little bit. :)
Caroline, I really like you, but that doesn’t make sense because you are combining a number of items to create a number of outfits. Isn’t that what the challenge is all about?
Hey Teodora! For me, the challenge is about combining 10 pieces (tops, bottoms, and shoes) to create 10 outfits. Accessories and such flow in and out of the outfits freely to keep the challenge fun, lighthearted, and not quite so rigid. After all, the challenge is all about having fun and trying something new. :) That’s my approach, but feel free to approach it differently!
i totally love this outfit. would you consider doing a tutorial for how you wrapped the scarf around your neck? :)

I love the whole outfit but especially the round bag. Round bags are kinda my fave right now! :)
Such a great look! Love the bag and how you’ve styled a scarf! xxx
Standing ovation for this set, Caroline, it is perfection. You also make spot on observations about “counterbalance.” Hadn’t thought about these styling changes in this light. Cheers, Ardith
Hi Caroline!
Loving your constantly evolving capsule wardrobes styles. I’m so looking forward to evolving mine too :) Took a few of your tips and threw out almost 90% of my wardrobe to create my very own capsule!!!
Would you please show up how you clean your bags? Specifically this one? I have this one and it gets dirty so fast and I just don’t know how to keep it clean!!
So simple and yet so cute!
