Capsule #3 / Outfit 41

I had no idea when I bought these shooties —

Pause. I still hate that term. Can we please come up with a new term? Thanks. Moving on.

I had no idea when I bought these shooties that they would be so versatile. Since we’re talking the summer-to-fall transition these days, I just have to say that these are the ultimate transitional shoe. They look like an ankle boot. But they wear like a sandal.

At the end of the year, I plan to do a short list of my best + favorite + most versatile pieces. I have no doubt these will be on that list.

Oh! And!

Cheetah print. Or leopard print. Whichever you prefer. Both are fun to pull out this time of year to give your outfit another push towards fall.

Okay so. Seriously. New word for shooties.

Top: Urban Outfitters

Bottoms: Madewell

Shoes: Steve Madden (similar for less)

Bag: Madewell (similar)

Bracelet: Francesca’s (similar)

I agree- I love shooties for fall, and I hate the word shootie. lol! I really like how you mixed something a little “fancier”- a white button up, with something casual- those shorts. It’s an unexpected combo but it really works here… maybe the accessories help?

I actually bought a pair of those shooties after seeing them here, and I also love them. Word of warning though – I tried on a pair in black in the store and then ordered a pair of the “natural” online. The natural ones were a much tighter fit through the foot & ankle (good for people with narrow feet, less so for me) and had far worse traction (bad for everyone!). I ended up returning them and getting a pair of the brown ones instead, which fit like the pair I’d originally tried on. So it looks like there’s a different in the construction in at least some of the colors – something to keep in mind if anyone else here gets seduced into a pair!

That’s interesting, I also bought the natural pair online. I ended up returning them because they were too tight and hard to fasten. I love the look of them, maybe I’ll try the brown. They may have been a little too high for me though.

Agree on the shooties! I have the exact same pair and grab them often because they go with EVERYTHING and they are seriously so comfy. I love your braid here! It would be awesome if you could do a post on some cute hairstyles. Love your style!

Booties? Is there a difference? I feel like “bootie” and “shootie” are interchangeable; however, one sounds like trendy footwear while the other sounds like a reason to go to the doctor.

I just saw a link to your blog and I am so inspired! I have been feeling in a major rut clothes-wise for a while, and I find your approach to minimalism really refreshing. I have been in the (verrrry sloooow) process of donating a lot of my clothing this summer, and I hope this will give me the kick I need to get it done and refine what I wear. Thank you!

(Also, I followed the link to your home tour through the FAQ and, no surprise, your apartment is amazing! I love it!)

I always just called them open-toed booties? Love this version, though — I have a similar pair in a lighter tan color that has served me well since the end of March! Would love for you to do a whole shoe post actually :-). Maybe tell us your “shoe-story” (I remember reading somewhere on the blog how in the past, you weren’t the biggest fan of high heels — am I remembering that right? Anyway, I dearly love peeking into the closets of (stylish) others and hearing why/how they chose their lifestyle staples. I love your neutral palette and smartly chosen basics!

Open-toed booties! That’s their new name! Thanks Julia. :)

And yes, I haven’t always been a huge fan of heels — I’m just not actually that graceful in them, so they have to be the RIGHT pair, you know? I feel like all the heels I have now are not too tall, easy to walk in, and just casual enough. :)

Yeah, ‘shooties’, not a fan. In the UK we would”t call them that, probably just open-toed boots, but we don’t use the term booties, or panties for that matter ;)

How about summer boots? It’s not that catchy!

I only recently found your blog and love the idea. I’m not new to capsule wardrobes – but usually only for holidays (vac ay’s) etc, but I’m going to give this a go. I have a 5 week old baby and really need a new approach for post-natal dressing – new body, new lifestyle… it’s al change and I’ll be using your tips as inspiration – thank you! I’ll share on my blog and let you know!

Help! I found these shoes for $29 but in navy. What can I wear these with? Outfit ideas? Or should I just pay double for the cognac… Oh boy…

The shoes have been named “Sling boots” in one Australian chain store.

Haha I never heard of that term but it definitely doesn’t roll off the tongue. And I’d LOVE to see a post of your most versatile pieces! I try really hard not to buy things that won’t match with a bunch of other items, so I’d love to see what you have. And this outfit is adorable- love the shorts with the fancier clutch and..booties. (I think that’s better, haha.)

I agree…”shooties” is a terrible term, dear Caroline!! The actual objects of affection, however, are awesome; I can just imagine the spectacular cost per wear value these open-toe booties are giving you!! ;)

I’ve been wanting a pair of shoes like this. I waited too long last time a similar pair were on Hautelook. I could kick myself. Argh! And those cute shorts of yours are on sale!
