5.23 meanwhile, behind the bangs

Jacquelyn + Jaana have this week off, so it’s just me and you again. :)

I’ve got this wild urge to go a little shorter with my hair. Like maybe just above the shoulders.

Don’t hold me to it, because I usually love having longer hair in the summertime. So there’s a good chance I’ll chicken out … but I’m seriously considering it.

And, just in case you’re wondering, I’m still loving my bangs. Mostly because, underneath the fringe, I’m slowly growing some ginormous eyebrows. They may still be in their ugly duckling stage right now because they are taking forever to grow in — but soon they’ll turn into swans. I just know it.

Swan eyebrows. Try to use that in a sentence today.

Outfit talk:

This sweater. I can officially say it: it’s my favorite piece in my winter wardrobe. I reach for it all the dang time. And it still looks good, despite that it’s from Forever21. I’m chalking that up to the fact that it’s marled — it camouflages any piling + pulls.

And these pants. Two seasons strong and not even a hint of wear. Since they are wool, I plan to retire them for the spring — but come next fall, you better believe you’ll see them again. They were a splurge at about $150, but with how well they are wearing, I can safely say they were worth it.

Sweater: Forever 21

Pants: old from Aritzia (similar here)

Shoes: Charles David

Bag: Marc Jacobs (similar for less here)

Stop talking about the swan eyebrows and how awesome bangs are. I’m currently trying to grow mine out. Bangs not Brows. But, yeah, one look and you could probably say both. ;)

Really great casual outfit I am so in love with the chunky knit of this sweater. And I feel he same way about my hair but will also probably not cut it. Your bangs look great and can’t wait to see your natural eyebrows once the emerge as beautiful swans! ;)

Can you please share your strategy for growing out your eye brows? I’m in the same boat but I don’t have bangs to hide behind :( I’m basically just not tweezing in particular areas and only cleaning a few (like seriously one or two hairs) at a time. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I want swan eyebrows!! (See I used it in a sentence today :)

I bought the sweater bc of your blog and feel the exact same way! Living in FL I don’t get a chance to wear it as often but it makes the rotation as soon as it goes below 60! Thanks for sharing. I am considering a capsule wardrobe and read your blog daily. Love your candor and style!

Wait until the fall to go for the full-out bob! You will regret not being able to do ponytails, sock buns, and braids. I am growing out my bob for this exact reason! :) It will be so hot and I hate having my hair on my neck in the humidity.

I’m also growing swan eyebrows. It’s time to thicken them up and straighten them out. It’s painfully slow. I was going to the salon and cleaning them up every 4-6 months. That just doesn’t work! They take too much off. So I put the tweezers away and ditched the wax. I’ve been using castor oil. (I got the tip here: http://thebeautydepartment.com/2013/06/kitchen-beautician-6/ ). I’m not sure what I’m going to do when the time comes to shape them again. I’d love to hear your tips.

You should totally go for the shorter hair! It’s a cute look and if you end up not liking it, it will grow out anyways. I’ve always had my hair between bob and shoulder length and it’s super comfy and easy to style.

I love your bangs! I’m thinking about cutting my own too. Would you be willing to do a post of a few tips/tricks for your hair? You’ve mentioned hair care in the past and I’d be interested to see how it has changed over time. Great sweater too!

    Caroline,
Is this sweater still available? When I click through the link only takes me to the F21 main page…
Also, I’m already getting so excited for your Spring Capsule! Have you ever worn a boho style dress? I was thinking it would be perfect on you with motorcycle boots and one of your hats. I can totally see you in that.
Looking forward to some Winter reviews and Spring sneak peeks!!

The thing about cutting your hair…it will always grow back! Every once in a while I get this uncontrollable urge to cut off all my hair. And by that I mean just above the shoulder is my shortest, my criteria is that it has to still fit in a pony tail, no matter how short and stubby. And then before I know it it is long enough for a flip then a bun and I love it being long, and then all of a sudden…I need to cut it all off again. lol
I say go for it! :)

Of course, the other risk of cutting your hair is liking it too much… I started by taking my lob above shoulder length in January for practical reasons and was surprised how much more flattering it was. A couple of haircut experiments later and I am now enjoying a chin length pixie-bob I never saw coming! I am left wondering why I didn’t try this years ago?!?

I love that sweater! I have a similar one that I constantly reach for, but I love how slouchy this one is.

    Hi there,
I purchased this turtleneck because of your site and I’m completely in love with how warm, comfy and stylish it is. I hadn’t shopped at Forever 21 in years, but am really grateful that your posts made me go in again. You’ve done a fantastic job of mixing price points and I’m really excited about your upcoming Spring Capsule. Keep up the great work!

I recently read an article in Martha Stewart living magazine where they showed outfits appropriate for the season, and in each outfit they had one or two splurg-y pieces (like the $150 pants), and one or two cheapie pieces (like the Forever 21 sweater). And they all looked amazing. It was incredibly validating because building a quality wardrobe takes a lot of time, and I’ve been worrying that pairing my Henry&Belle jeans with American Eagle outfit sweaters is just…um…tacky. But I say if Martha can do it, so can we. Especially if we luck out and find something cheap that lasts and lasts! :)

Your eyebrows will look amazing! I think thicker eyebrows have more character and definition than thin ones. :)

    Hey Caroline,
I love to go from short to long to short hair too! I would wait until fall for the short cut- as someone else suggested- you’ll miss the ponytails etc. in the summer. Funny I say that to you and I’m scheduled for a haircut the first week in March. Sometimes we don’t follow our own advice though!

About the eyebrows…. I’m 49 and am noticing my eyebrows are not growing as fast as they use too AND some of them are turning GREY- yikes!!! Enjoy your swan eyebrows- wish I could!!!

PS- what size did you get in that sweater…. I’m trying to decide between small or medium….

    Your hair looks great!

I loved the neutral palette you had going on during summer, as it looked so cool and fresh. I think I’m finding it a bit ‘cold’ to view in Winter, although your pieces certainly look cozy. I just find myself wishing for a hint of colour, somewhere! I always hate looking at the greys, browns and blacks that dominate my wardrobe during winter. But, your capsule, your rules!!

That’s good you’ve got your fringe to hide your growing out eyebrows!
I love that chunky sweater you’re wearing, I love roll-necks at the moment and can’t wait to wear some during winter (I live in New Zealand!)

    hi caroline!
here’s a question that i’ve been wondering about for a while – how tall are you?! i’m cold and thinking about buying that sweater or one like it, but i feel like on me it might be way too long, since i’m only 5′. you look tall. ;)

I truly love your blog but prefer to read your posts only. I’m sure a break is needed but your guest bloggers are SO not you and SO not the reason I bookmarked your blog. I deleted it but found myself missing your site so I returned with the desire to ask you to consider keeping the blog to just you? We all came to read about Caroline not the other ladies who honestly, I do not resonate with or like their style. They are not you. I would rather go days without a new post then reading theirs and seeing their style.
