Aaron’s birthday celebration yesterday was a total success. We spent the morning/afternoon at the legendary Franklin BBQ, grabbed happy hour drinks with our best friends, and ended the day at a tattoo parlor. For Aaron, that is. I don’t have one … yet. (But do I have a secret Pinterest board devoted to ink?)
Texas weather is all over the map — just like where you live, I bet. If I’ve learned one thing from chatting with all of you, it’s that each place + climate comes with it’s own set of challenges. It’s easy to think that other people have it made, but we all must deal.
We’re having warmer spell right now, so it’s this pretty dress to the rescue. Below, you’ll find the other pieces in my wardrobe that come in handy when the temperatures get a little warmer. Sure, a big chunk of my winter wardrobe is sweaters and boots, but I’ve got this little “capsule within a capsule” of warm weather clothes to see me through random warm winter days.

I absolutely love your blog! I’m still a long way from creating a capsule wardrobe, though. I can’t seem to make decisions about which clothes should be in there and which shouldn’t… Anyway, I think it’s great you were able to even take different kinds of weather into account!
Hey I love love love this outfit! btw I absolutely am in love with your new hair style and cut bangs myself because of your inspiration=)
I agree with Olivia! This outfit is super!

This dress really looks like it’s probably fancy sweatpants. Love it.
It’s a good idea…Spring wardrobe starts for me in April, but we are having such a cold winter that I wouldn’t be surprised if I need to include a few winter items anyway.
But let’s be honest, half the sweaters in my wardrobe are cardigans, so I can just continue the tees/cardigans gimmick. Not much will change!
I love the play of textures in this outfit!
Texas weather will definitely keep you on your toes. I remember the first Christmas I had after moving to SE Texas (I spent the first part of my life in NE Texas where they actually have seasons) had 80 degree weather – I was CONFUSED haha. But now, going from 30 degrees at the beginning of the week to the upper 60s a couple days later is normal.
I have the exact opposite for Maine :) My May-Sept. wardrobe is mostly warm weather clothes, but a couple sweaters, a jacket, a pair of tights, and maybe even some boots are still needed.
Hopefully the snow will melt before July…
thanks for sharing, Caroline!
As a fellow Mainer, I can back Ashley up 100% (my purchases last June included an insulated coat and waterproof boots!), so I just wanted to share that my immediate thought on seeing pictures of your cute dress was:
Exposed skin! That leads to hypothermia and DEATH! Alert! Alert! *panic*
Hope you’re enjoying Austin :D
Wow! Your mini capsule wardrobe is almost like mine but the one for the 3 month period!
I’m a new mom and I’m going to be returning to work in 2 1/2 weeks. Since my body has changed a bit this was the PERFECT opportunity to create a capsule wardrobe. I’ve always been a bit of a minimalist, I hate clutter and a few times a year I purge tons of stuff. This was the deepest dive I’ve ever taken and I’m so happy.
I have 45 pieces and plan to edit further as I discover there are things that don’t realistically fit my life and style. Im a graphic designer in Boston and I work in a casual office where the median age is about 25 so the theme for this capsule is comfy, casual, cool. I actually purchased the Kent Blazer from Aritzia and a pair of the Vans sk8 hi’s in a weathered black color. Thanks for inspiring me!
A warm weather section is a must around here in Austin. I LOVE that dress! I still haven’t braved the line at Franklins (I usually head right down the road to Mickelthwait), but feel like I should do it at least once, ha!
San Francisco just switched from weather in the 40’s to 72 degrees this weekend. It was unreal! I definitely had to break out some lighter clothes!
Likewise! I’m in Santa Cruz and had to rummage through my summer capsule just to find items to wear for a beach day. My “How Fascinating!” moment came when I discovered that my summer clothes need serious help and re-vamping — this first Fall/Winter Capsule of mine has seriously put me in touch with my personal style and making sure it’s represented in my clothes. I’m doing my switchover to Sping/Summer capsule in the last two weeks of March, and it cannot come soon enough!

I feel ya on the Texas weather, this past Saturday I was wearing a sleeveless dress and sitting on a patio enjoying a adult beverage and now I am back in a sweater. Texas weather is just bipolar. I love that you do have a few pieces that account for the wacky weather.
First things first I love this outfit! It looks amazing on you and I love that it’s stylish but also looks super cozy/comfy.
I’m starting my first capsule in March and what you had to say in this post is super helpful. I live in Central FL and it’s going to be 30 degrees tonight, with a high of 80 by Sunday. This time of year is always really unpredictable and I’m trying to take that into account in planning and putting together my spring capsule. I’m sure I will definitely learn a thing or two but am looking forward to the challenge. I’m definitely going to include the mini capsule idea!
Have you ever posted about how you decide to get rid of items when they no longer look nice. I think I’ve read all your archives but haven’t found anything on the topic. My dilemma is, sometimes things start to pill or are getting pretty faded, but they aren’t stained, torn, etc. How do you decide what to part with? Help?
Your hair looks super cute in this bunch. :)
I was waiting for someone else to ask about the tattoo, but no one did and I’m curious! Did Aaron get a tattoo??

I love the simplicity of this outfit and the way you paired this sleek little dress with some dressed down sneakers. That’s always a hard look for me to pull off, but it really works on you :) I’m so glad I found your blog. I love your ideas about capsule wardrobes! :) Lindsay
You look so cute! I’m going to give a capsule wardrobe a go this spring. Starting March 1st for me, North Florida has the goofiest weather right now, 30 degrees in the morning and 75 degrees in the afternoon.
I need some advice on that darling skirt. I have it and love it, but it always unzips without me noticing. Does this happen to you? Do more outfits with it too!
Extra points for the rockin hair and smile pic.
I love how your midi dress hits you at just the right point – the knee. The dress you linked to has the dress ending past the model’s knees — I get that’s probably technically where it’s meant to finish, but I just find it so unflattering.
I love this outfit! You look really smashing.
I just bought myself a pair of slip ons like yours, but I’m having a problem wearing them without my socks being seen. What kind of socks you do wear with them? No socks is not possible, because my feet do get smelly :(
Hi Vivian! Usually I go sockless, but on colder days lately I’ve been wearing nude colored no-show socks. They are super old but I think I got them from Target. :) xo Caroline

It’s -13 degrees here. Anyways I love that I subscribed to your blog. This year I wanted to minimalize my closet and this helped it a lot!
That is a super cute dress. I was at Athleta over the weekend, and tried on this dress.
A bit shorter than the one you are wearing. The fabric was amazing, and it is really flattering. I loved the line down the front to give it a little more character, AND it has pockets!
