WOOHOO! It’s time to get into the outfits for the winter remix!
In case you missed yesterday’s post, here’s what’s going on. For the next two weeks, I’m partnering up with Lee of Style Bee, and we’re hosting a remix challenge: 10 pieces of clothing, 10 outfits, 10 days.
Excited doesn’t even begin to cover it! I am 100% PUMPED about this remix.
For me, it’s almost less about the challenge and more about the community around the challenge. Seeing so much activity on the hashtag, seeing the outfits you’re creating, chatting back and forth real quick on IG — it’s a blast. Keep sharing. We truly love experiencing this with you guys.
Now let’s get down to the outfit.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
This is an outfit I can live in. No accessories, no tucks, no high maintenance styling. Just a swingy blouse (in a great color) and some jeans. Easy and done.
Today, the weather is going to bump up to 77 degrees — Texas didn’t get the memo that it’s winter this week — so I’m keeping things as breezy as possible in this lightweight blouse with the sleeves rolled up.
Most of today, I’ll be at home working. Then later tonight, we’re headed to a little town event for “Young Professionals” so that should be fun. Luckily, this outfit works for both.
ITEM #1: BLOUSE
Since we’re working in tens here (10 pieces, 10 days, etc.), I want to focus on one of my 10 pieces each day. First up, this blouse.
This top was an accidental find. I got it a few months ago, when I was looking to add this color color to my wardrobe. And honestly, it took me a while to get used to seeing myself in this color, which is why you haven’t seen it on the blog until now. Now I adore this shade, but this neutral gal had to get used to it first.
To me, it’s got a lot going on — box pleats in the front, buttons on the back, pleated cuffs, and that bold color. It’s not something I would typically characterize as “my style”.
But, I think it’s good to have a piece or two that are outside of my typical style comfort zone.
It’s turned out to be an excellent “statement” blouse in my wardrobe. It’s something I can throw on when my usual uniform of tees and sweaters isn’t quite dressy enough.
Even though it’s dressy, it’s not delicate (yep, it’s machine washable). It also doesn’t wrinkle. At all. Which explains why I can wear it around the house all day and still look fresh enough to go out in it at night.
I’m wearing a size 6. Sadly, it’s all sold out in this partiular color, but it is available in white, black, blush, and soft yellow. Links are at the bottom of the post, if you’re interested.
STYLING NOTES
ROLLED SLEEVES | I rolled the sleeves because it’s warm today — and because the pleated cuffs are a little fancier than I want to go during the day. I may roll them down for tonight’s event.
MIRRORED COLORS | Since I have this beautiful cognac/spice color going on up top, I decided to mirror it with my ankle booties too. I like the “bookend” effect it gives the outfit. And, to me, it makes the denim blue really stand out.
CONTRAST | Even though I’ve got mirrored colors going on with my shoes + blouse, I wanted to throw in another color element and add a bit of contrast with my bag. I love how the dark brown brings gravity to the cognac and denim blue color palette.
ACCESSORY FREE | This blouse has enough interest + color going on for me, so I kept things simple and accessory-free.

And there you have it — oufit number one!

Just plain adorable!
I love the color. Love the pleated look. Love that you rolled the sleeves up!
Hi Caroline! It is interesting to see that you are putting effort in introducing more colours into your neutral wardrobe with this cognac. I am trying the exact opposite: I found my wardrobe too colourful, with a lot of bright colours that are hard to combine, so instead I am introducing some “colours that can serve as neutrals”, for example I am at the moment completely into khaki-green, which is really easy to combine with almost everything else. Good luck with the style experimenting, I hope you don’t get tired of the colours too soon!
Eilene, I’m really enjoying, as you said, colors that serve as neutrals — definitely a good way to go. Khaki green sounds like a great addition! Thanks for the encouragement! :)
Looks great! That type of “statement” blouse is something I once gravitated towards but then ended up with so many statement pieces I had nothing that went together – I’m looking forward to seeing how you style it different ways! My 10×10 pieces are a mix of favorites and new pieces I want to incorporate in with my favorites. See you on Insta!
See you there, Brandi! :)
One of your best looks! !! You look absolutely amazing!!! :D
You look indeed great with this look – no wonder you can live in!

I adore this top and the idea of the 10×10 challenge. I’ve been following you for quite a while and your style has definitely inspired my own. I’m thinking doing the challenge would be fun although with 4 children, I’m going to have to take a raincheck on this one. Always. So. Busy.
Totally understandable, Jamie. No pressure, you’ll join us when you can! (Or do it on your own!) :)
I LOVE that top. I’m a sucker for tops with detail because I’m lazy when it comes to styling, so letting the clothes do all the work for me is a win. Love this “new” color for you too.
Julie, it certainly does simplify getting dressed, doesn’t it? :)
Oh I love this colour on you! I’m not sure I can manage 10 pieces this week, it’s too hectic I have 3 family birthdays, 2 theatre trips and a meal out! I am up for trying out things out of my comfort zone and mixing them with my usual clothes. Yesterday I wore a vintage cardi and today I am wearing herringbone, wide trousers both second hand bargains.
Hey Tanya, totally understand the challenges in scheduling when it comes to this 10×10. Next time! :)
I think the outfit is lovely! So comfy looking. Just not thrilled about the top being polyester-I tend to sweat too much. Any thoughts??
Oh Marti! I can relate! I tend to sweat, especially in social situations!! The sweat did show up a little bit, but wasn’t bad at all in my opinion. :)
Hi Caroline and remixers,
I was thinking of making an index of all the blogs participating in the challenge. Here’s a link! https://lesslessyes.wordpress.com/2017/01/10/10-x-10-blogger-index/
Caroline, would you mind if I included one of your outfit photos from this post in the index with a link back to this post?
Reply to this post if you are participating and would like to be included! I plan on creating my first post after work today.
Great idea, Louise! What a fun idea!

Hi Louise, thank you for asking! Feel free to use any images as long as you link back and credit Unfancy :)
Very cute!
That bag seems quite comfortable to wear and cute as well, i love it!

Looove the color on that top. Kudos for getting out of your comfort zone… this definitely works on you! I think I may join the challenge this time around. Looks fun! :)
Hope you’ll join us, Taryn! :)
I love this outfit! I love working with a capsule wardrobe and that’s what I’m trying to do for the rest of this winter. I got a few new things for Christmas and so I’m trying to mix and match with what I have until this spring. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hey Aimee, Christmas gifts are the perfect opportunity to experiment and mix the old with the new :) Have fun!
I love that you share how you will wear the outfit for different situations – that’s one of the things I’m hoping to improve on through this challenge! I just posted my day 1 outfit up on my blog:

Thanks for sharing, Laura! :)
Adorable. Would love a tutorial on how to roll up the sleeves.
Hi Caroline, Looking forward to seeing all your outfits in this remix!
Also I’m interested if you found a new winter coat? I’m on the hunt and would love to see what you came up with. Thanks again for all your inspiration!
Hey Jessica! I did order the cocoon coat from Aritzia, but I’m still on the fence about whether to keep it or not. I originally wanted more of a parka, but this coat was just so pretty, and seems super warm. We’ll see if I end up keeping it! :)
Love the top! – Elle ♡ http://ellebenet.com
Love your shirt! It’s gorgeous.
Abigail Alice ?
I love the shirt. The color is great and the pleats keep it fun. I love these mustardy colors. Makes me wonder why I don’t own anything other than tights and a scarf in them…
I’m joing the Winter 10×10. Day 1, so far so good! I’m loving the community of it on IG. It’s leading to a lot of accounts I wouldn’t otherwise have found d.
It’s pretty fun, isn’t it? Thanks for joining in, Andrea! :)
This probably has to be one of my favorite outfits of yours! I adore that top and you look so comfortable AND put together at the same time. I love blouses that have some structure to them for design and detail but that aren’t too fitted so they stay comfy all day. Great combo!
Oooh, I love the mix of browns! I’ll have to try a similar look with my brown tall boots and cognac bag. My 10×10 color palette is more on the cool side of the color palette (black, blue, red, grey) so it’s fun to see more warm colors in yours. :)
Beautiful blouse! And the colour looks amazing on you, Caroline!
I’m taking part in this challenge. 10 days is a huge challenge for me. I’ve already set aside my 10 items and wearing my first today. This is fun! :)
Enjoy, Marissa! :)
Getting in to the 10×10 challenge a day late; I m in England. That’s my excuse. Loving your 1st outfit Caroline; although tbh you look great in every outfit I ve seen! Not so easy when you’re my shape! My 10×10 consists of dresses mainly but find your outfits, colour combo s and styling inspirationAl.
I m even getting into In stag ram! Maybe I ll even post an outfit before too long! Now I m way out my comfort zone!
Can’t wait to see more.
Carolina
Wow! That’s a dressy, ultra fem blouse, Caroline! I like it and it IS really different–in color and in style–from your usual! Great job!! It’s good to draw outside our own lines, isn’t it?!!!
http://closetmatters.blogspot.com/ I am doing the 10 x 10 REMIX for the FIRST TIME!
Of course, I already MESSED IT UP by selecting clothes that DIDN’T match the weather and I think I frost-bit my ankles yesterday. Hand to forehead!! Or, as you would say “How fascinating!!!”
Needless to say, I’m in warm, wool socks today. :)
I don’t have IG!!! :( But please join me on my NEW blog!!!
Thanks for sharing, Holly! This challenge is always a good learning experience! :)
Such a cute top! And can’t believe its actually from a UK brand so I can get hold of it – albeit not in that fab colour. Seeing such an easy breezy look is making me look forward to spring :-)
I’ve been making the most of the slightly lighter items in my mix before Arctic winds and possibly snow hit the UK tomorrow and Thursday. Sweaters at the ready!
Gorgeous outfit!!! <3
Love,

I’m so very in love with that top! I am slightly worried that my broader shoulders will make it look boxy on me… but I can feel my spring work capsule calling out for it!
Sincerely, Tania
I definitely need to try things outside my wheelhouse to better define my style and try new looks. I love that blouse and the colour looks great on you. Well done!
i love this top! it’s so beautiful. a few questions based on your instagram stories that i think we all want to know:
1. YOUR EYELASHES!!! extensions? falsies? they look amazing!
2. what is your current workout routine? still doing piyo? always looking for something new to try and am always inspired by you!
Hey Danielle! Thanks for the questions.
1) I’m trying eyelash extensions! They are super fun. I’ve actually had them since Thanksgiving. To me, the best part about them is that they are such a statement, there’s really no need to wear makeup — especially eye makeup. But I’ve even stopped wearing BB Cream for the most part unless it’s a special occasion. I just wake up, spend 5 minutes curling my hair, and I’m done. Not messing with makeup is such a time saver. Not sure how long I’ll keep them, but they are fun.
2) I am just head over heels for yoga in general. I go four or five times a week. Currently trying to incorporate some other fun, more recreational activities — even looking for a community volleyball team! We’ll see :)
Such a cute outfit! I especially love the blouse!

Caroline thanks for answering my question about your winter coat, I hope it works out! ?
Super cute! What a great color.
Hey Caroline!
Firstly, I love your blog and everything you stand for – you’re really so inspirational! Secondly, I have decided to take on your 10×10 challenge with my Winter Capsule Wardrobe series happening over the next 10 days. I’d love it if you took a look and let me know your thoughts. Check it out on http://www.girlonyourmind.com :)
Thanks!
