It seems to take a ridiculous amount of effort to make it to a winery — even though there are a handful about 20 minutes from our apartment — but it’s ALWAYS worth it.
Even as I’m typing that, I’m giving myself a stiff talkin’ to: Okay, no more excuses. We’re getting to a winery in the next few days. I mean, we have the outfits for it, so … leggo!
We do wineries casual, wearing comfy clothes so we can walk the grounds + play bocce ball + spread out a little wine n’ cheese picnic. If you’re ever in Austin, you’ll have to stop by the Duchman Winery (it’s our favorite!).
AARON’S LOOK
Top: J.Crew / Bottom: Forever21 / Shoes: Aldo / Watch: Fossil (+ Fossil strap)
This is the ultimate effortless-cool-guy look. The denim + denim is a bit hipster (perfect for Austin), but Aaron’s shoes + watch + hairstyle class it up.
I’m going to say it — I love Aaron in denim + denim. He can do no wrong in it. He picked up these jorts at Forever21 this year, and he loves them. No complaints from the wifey, either. ;)
While I think this outfit would work with almost any shoe (Jack Purcells, New Balance sneaks, flip flops) these cognac leather sneaks add some serious style to the look. Lesson #1 on guy style: modern shoes matter. We’ve found that almost anything at Aldo looks modern and matches Aaron’s cool style.
MY LOOK
Hat: 47 / Top: Madewell / Bottoms: American Eagle / Shoes: J.Crew / Bag: ONA
I feel a bit repetitive chatting about my outfit because I posted this exact outfit a few weeks ago. But I’ll just comment that a summer date to a winery in Texas demands shorts + short sleeves. Otherwise I might die of heat stroke, and well … that would be unfortunate.
Other notes: A bigger bag is necessary because that’s where the goodies for the picnic hide out. A hat helps keep the sun off my face and — bonus! — helps the hair situation in case it’s windy out. And I like wearing sandals so I can slip them off easily + feel the grass between my toes.
WHY THEY WORK TOGETHER
We’re both wearing cutoff jean shorts, which is one of the subtleties that keeps our outfits in the same style universe. By wearing different washes though, we are staying out of matchy-matchy land.
We’re also both wearing shoes from the casual side — flat sandals and sneaks tend to work well together like that.
Finally, even though our shirts are different, they are both snappy — not fancy, but not sloppy. Just snappy. His chambray work shirt + my linen graphic tee were practically made for each other.
…
Happy dating!
You guys are such a cute couple! I love the outfits – you both have such great style. I came across your blog a few weeks ago and LOVE your capsule wardrobe idea – I’m saving up right now to be able to create one for myself!
I love your couple style for your dates!! Dating your spouse is SO important! :-)
Hi Rebecca! Couldn’t agree more! :) xoxo Caroline
Thanks for the couple-posts, they are very helpful–plus both you of have sparkle in your eyes that is fun to see! Texas has some great wineries & some great wines. Bet you had a fabulous day!
Hi Caroline! I’m quite new here (found your blog about 2 weeks ago and immediately read it to the bottoms. I mean, in one day :D ) Got to tell you, you’re style is amazing – so real, normal, yet perfect as a whole. Today I finally did something I’ve been planning since I read your tips. Cleaned the entire closet. After throwing away all the things NOPE and filling a whole box of MAYBE I realised I don’t even OWN 37 pieces that I love and would wear right away. Felt very refreshed (yet a little scared – where on earth is all that money that I spent on clothes??) and now I really see what I need to buy to make myself feel like you do when you open your closet (so jealous!)
Was wondering – would it be possible for you to write about quality of clothes and choosing pieces that you know will last? My biggest problem is wearing things down. Most of the blouses I buy (sure, can’t afford Prada, but Gap or Zara aren’t that bad, surely??) turn into rags in less than a year. And don’t even get to start me on the shoes….
Do you have and tips for people who’d really like to have a capsule wardrobe, but simply don’t know how to choose pieces that will look neatly and pretty after several years or at least seasons? Would die to hear what you think of the matter.
Kisses.
Marta
PS Sorry for my english but I’m from Poland and don’t really use english on a daily basis. Still I thought I’d tell you – think it’s nice to know that you had that kind of an impact on someone across the Atlantic Ocean ;)
Hi Marta! Thanks for your sweet comment! That’s such a great question — and I think lots of other people are dealing with this too. I’d like to write a whole blog post on the topic — what do you think? I’m excited to get started on it! xoxo Caroline
This is exactly what I had hoped for!!!!!! Thanks so much! Can’t wait to see what you think on the topic :) xoxo Marta
love both of your looks!!! I think it’s so cool that your hubby is willing to contemplate style and make appearances on your blog.
I agree with Marta, I read your entire blog the day I discovered it. I look forward to your post on picking quality pieces:)
XO, Gina
